Cars were lined up for what seemed like endless eternity to buy gas, gas station employees were out wearing reflective vests holding signs and trying to direct traffic and less than 100 feet down the road other gas stations are closed because they are out of gas.
We (as usual) refuse to panic and participate in all the hysteria. We had the same level of calmness as when we went through Y2K... we were actually pretty relieved when nothing happened because we didn't even buy the bottled water!
The Punk is spending her first night away from home without mom and dad - gone to West to stay with Johnny's parents, so we had the night alone... we could spend an exciting night lined up at the pumps with angry and frustrated drivers, but instead we decided to go the antithecal route. Go spend your money in retail! Johnny has lost 4 pant sizes over the last few months so it wasn't as frivilous as it sounds. I, however, have not lost a thing and in fact have gained another 5, so shopping for me was actually helping to reinforce my sparse wardrobe in my current sizes. I had given away all my "fat clothes" before I got pregnant and now I'm back into those sizes again and have very little to work with.
It was a pleasant night. It wasn't long enough though. We felt the pressure of the long looming weekend. It's my nephews first birthday party this weekend in West and after, mom is bringing both boys back to our house, so needless to say, we had a lot of housework that HAD to be done right away because we have traveling to do today. Johnny and I made an agreement that we shook on in order to "negotiate" getting all the work done. It was actually kinda fun to negotiate and the end result was nice too! We got a clean house and so did he.. and so did I... It was all done in fun of course, but I'm already hitting him up for negotiations for my new kitchen light fixture being installed.
So my downstairs bathroom renovation is nearly complete. I need to get the mirror a frame and I will be happy with the results. Through that project we actually found the directon for the kitchen, so again, while the rest of the world is budgeting for end of the world type economies, I'm watching every DIY and HGTV project show I can find and out buying high quality paints and kitchen knobs.
I guess my policy on life is to act natural, even if it is the end of the world!
